Favorite Examples of Sunlight in Songs

"and the impending squint of
first light, that lurked behind
a weeping marquee in downtown Putnam
and would be pullin' up any minute now
just like a bastard amber
Velveeta yellow cab on a rainy corner
and be blowin' its horn, in every window
in town."
-Tom Waits "Putnam County"

"And the early dawn cracks out a carpet of diamond
Across a cash crop car lot
filled with twilight Coupe Devilles,
Leaving the town in a-keeping
Of the one who is sweeping
Up the ghost of Saturday night..."
-Tom Waits "Ghost of Saturday Night"

"Now Suzanne takes your hand
And she leads you to the river
She is wearing rags and feathers
From Salvation Army counters
And the sun pours down like honey
On our lady of the harbour
And she shows you where to look
Among the garbage and the flowers"
-Leonard Cohen "Suzanne"

"Who loves the sun
Who cares that it makes plants grow
Who cares what it does
Since you broke my heart"
-Velvet Underground "Who Loves The Sun"

That's amazing imagery in all of those songs. I need to listen to more Tom Waits. Thanks for such an uplifting post. I tend to forget a blog isn't just a place to vent but to share pockets of joy with people.

Stumbled across your blog while on facebook. I had completely forgotten about it, probably because I stopped reading it after you stopped writing in it for a year, but that's neither here nor there. Man, seems like the last time we hung out was in different age, like geologically speaking. I tell you, I was at my folks place a couple days ago, and was thinking about going up to richmond, but then I realized that none of my friends live there anymore. Kind of a shame really, all the memories in that city, but no compelling reason to go back there.

Miguel, I've had an e-mail drafted up for you for a while but I don't know an e-mail to send it to! I checked your other blog and thought you would have it on there but didn't see it. If it is on the website, sorry I missed it but if it isn't on there, you should think about putting up a contact section so people know how to get in touch with you if they want to commission you for work or something through your website!

Anyway, really though I'd like to find your e-mail somehow to send this your way. Hope you're doing well
